Oh Santa....

So, I am a different Mom and Davis and I chose (before we were married) not to incorporate Santa into our holidays. Unfortunately that is nearly an impossible feet in our society. Tanner was pretty easy....he never really cared much about Santa and rarely asked many questions....he started to ask more around kindergarten and by then we had baby #2 and 3 around, but still young. Anytime he'd ask me if there was a Santa I would say, "What do you think?" and he would give me different answers depending on his age and usually that was that. We always had and filled stockings but never said they were from Santa, there has never been a present under the tree from Old St Nick for that matter either. So, as Ady and Matt got older, they asked more and more about Santa, but it was also never a huge thing, I let them think what they wanted but never even took them to see the guy. So honestly I thought we had it down pretty good. Well this year Tanner asked again about Santa and I gave him the same old, "What do you think?" line. He then said, "I'm going to find out for sure this year, I am going to write a note to Santa and see if he brings me anything on the list. You can't see it mom and cheat.
Okay, my first thought, though I didn't say this was, "When have you EVER gotten a present from Santa to make you think this is going to work?" Then I thought, is this totally going to ruin Christmas Day?!?! So then today I saw on my friends blog that her son (Tanner's age) asked about Santa and they finally just gave him the dirty truth.
So, I am posting this to all my blog readers, Should I sit down with him and give him the dirty truth?; Should I let him write his letter and see what happens? I seriously thought he didn't believe anyway and this wasn't an issue, but now I am wondering. Ideas would be nice, nothing is right or wrong, just curious what others think.

I'm sure you've already resolved the issue, but here are my comments!

Just let him have a conversation with London. He'll tell him straight out. He won't even let us bring up Santa, "oh mom, he's not real."
Our home teachers came over with a great story about the symbolism of Santa as the Savior and then on this blog:

I liked the way they got their children thinking about the similarities between Santa and Jesus.
