So most of you know, I work part-time for the state of Utah, for the benefits. With Davis being self-employed and Matthew's heart defect, we haven't even looked at insurance seperate from my work, we actually aren't even sure they will insure Matthew. Well, we learned last week that the State is having a rough year and they were in need of making cuts. We were a bit nervous at first, but were told originally that they weren't going to cut our budget at all. Phew, they took 80 grand form us last year and it was TIGHT. Well, then we learned that they would most likely tkae 3% of our budget and my boss and I decided that we would need to cut one of our full-time positions to part-time (which we were actually working on anyway.) Well, my boss went to the special legislative session last Thursday and Friday. Yesterday, Monday she called a meeting to discuss the cuts. She started off telling us everyone what I all ready knew, there was a 3% cut. She then informed us that on Thursday they decided to add an additional 80 grand to that cut. I was shocked and worried on how this was going to happen. I was also surprised she hadn't spoken to me (since I am over the budget.) She then got really quiet and said, well, on Friday when they finalized everything, we were no longer in the budget at all!!! I was FLOORED and shocked. Basically they completely cut us out of the budget and gave us until the end of October to clean out our desks.
Needless to say there were a lot of tears in our office (and I had taken Tanner to work...ackward!) Well, my biggest concern was having insurance for this baby. I've been a bit freaked out about this.
So, the only "options" I have right now are to work until the end of October and do COBRA (which is $1000 a month...ouch!) The state also has a RIF program (not sure what it stands for) but basically they put you on a list and if a job comes up equal to the job you were let go from, they have to give you first priority at the job. The biggest problem with this....there are NO part-time with benefits jobs out there. ALSO, there was only ONE job that I oculd even possibly do on the list. Now, keep in mind that there are 10 people in our office all needing to find jobs. YIKES!
So at this point we are just praying for a job to come up that I can take for the benefits, until the baby comes. Then re-evaluate it from there. Unfortunately, there is a huge chance that it'll have to be full-time (UGH!) To top it all off, the state recently made all employees go to 4-10 shifts, which means I will have to work 4 10 hour days. This is so not on my list of things to do, especially 7 months pregnant.
I am a bit stressed out at this point and really hope this baby holds off long enough for me to get a new job (OH to top it off, if I have to be full-time, I barely have 2 weeks of leave for when the baby comes.....grrrr!) My other job was so flexible, they were going to let me work at home for a little while (I would've had 4 weeks at part-time) and then they were going to let me take the baby with me to work until he's about 6 months old or too difficult. LOL
Well, there is my crazy and sad day yesterday. I hope that we can figure something out soon and that it wouldn't be to difficult on my poor pregnant body. *Sigh*
I'll keep you posted!

Holly I am so sorry! The timing of everything is so stressful for you, I'm sure!
RIF stands for "Reduction In Force" and nobody wants to hear that acronym and their name, in the same sentence.
Take lots of deep breaths and somehow, this will all work out.
Hang tough!
I am sorry!! I was on COBRA for Landon and it was $500 just for me. I didn't put my family on because that was too expensive but with Matthew's condition I am sure you can't let insurance lapse or it will be a preexisting condition the next time you apply for insurance. Yuck! It will all work out. Somehow things always do.
Oh no, I'm so sorry! I can't even believe how many people have been losing jobs lately. The economic situation has really been hitting a lot of people close to home. We'll keep you in our prayers!
That's terrible news. I know of a work at home option I could refer you to. I'm pretty sure it has benefits, but you'd have to be full-time. Let me know if you are interested and I can give you the email address of a friend of mine who just got a job there (she's about 7 months pregnant too).
Seriously terrible news. I'm so sorry.
Wow Holly - so sorry to hear the news. Good luck, as talented as you are I am sure you will find something else in no time.
If you get into a bind with insurance let me know. There is an option through the state (HIP) It is for people who are considered uninsurable (cancer, pre-existing conditions, etc...) You may be able to get your son a policy through there and they the rest of your family can hopefully get a personal policy. Give me a call if you need contact info.
OH my goodness Holly. I can't even imagine what thoughts and feelings you must be going through. I am sending you a great big cyber hug. I wish I could do something for you. If I can take the kids or help with anything please let me know. THanks...ps are you goign to the food storage classes?
I work at home for the U hospital doing patient reminder calls, I could see if they have a need for anyone else to do this. If you work 30+ hours they offer insurance benefits. If you are interested let me know! Good luck with everything. I hope that it works out well for you. Oh my Dad sells health insurance, I can ask him if there are any other options out there.
holly, that sucks! i'm so sorry. a lot of people work part-time at fedex just for the full insurance benefits, which is 90% coverage! maybe davis could do that on the side. he would only have to throw boxes for a couple of hours in the morning...i think it's like, 6-9 or something. not sure exactly. have him give tom a call if he's interested. i think they're always hiring!
I talked to Marylou last night and she said Tom had one job opening and over 145 people applied for the job.
Things are tough all over and I have to believe that the Lord knows each of us and our needs. When one door closes another one opens.
Uncle Phil is putting our names in the temple...and we can only benefit from the prayers on our behalf.
Love, Mom
Tanner was so compassionate that he built a business called the Crazy Wazy Restaurant for all the ladies who got fired on Monday... he could put them to work right away making all kinds of foods like mac and cheese... and stuff like that :) what a love!!
Holly, Sorry to hear about all of this. Nathan works part time at UPS in the mornings before he goes to his "real" job because the benefits are great and they are totally hiring right now because of the holiday season coming up! Also don't you get FMLA where you are right now? I would look into that because if you have any time built up you could use it for the first part of November and that would extend your health coverage for the month so as long as you have your baby in Nov. it would all be covered! Give me a call if this doesn't make sense or if you want to know what to do with it! Talk to you later. PS let me know if ther is anything that I can do!
I'm so sorry! There's always SOMETHING, isn't there! You're in our prayers! You & Davis are such amazing people with such great faith, that I know that Heavenly Father will bless you!
Holly,
My heart is aching for you right now! I can't imagine the stress you must be under. Please know that you and Davis will be in our prayers.
I don't think I knew about Matthew's heart problem-we will have to chat later.
Maybe this is all a blessing in disguise- maybe a better opportunity is coming...let's hope so huh?
This sounds very clicheish (is that a word?), but please, please let us know if we can do anything for you!
Michelle
