Girls Camp 2010

Girls Camp 2010 was AWESOME. I have to say we have the BEST girls EVER and the leaders that went with me....thumbs UP! We left Tuesday morning early. We got up to camp and spent most of the morning setting up...okay Davis (my hubby) and Ryan (Natalie's Hubby) set up. They were Rock Stars!!! They even made the trip back down to Salt Lake since a few items were forgotten. I'd have to say a good portion of the first day was a blur. Also, I will keep a few hilarious moments to myself as not to hurt anyone's feelings. LOL

I wasn't too great at taking pictures. Half the time I couldn't find my camera or I was too busy. But this is part of our camp. This is the stove and camp kitchen.....which we loved! Notice the tarps. Day 2 consisted of LOTS of rain and Ryan came up to bring some medication to Natalie and set up more tarps. He seriously is AMAZING!!!!!
I do have to say one of the funniest moments late Tuesday night. Before bed the leaders all discussed late night potty breaks. I told them they could wake me up whenever and I would go with them. So about 3:30 (I looked at my clock) someone said, "Holly are you awake?" I of-course wasn't sleeping super well and said yes. So we started getting shoes on for the potty. In the process the other leaders woke up and figured they would come too. After we were all done in the facilities, we went to wash our hands and one of the leaders (won't say who) said, "I never wash my hands when I go to the bathroom in the middle of the night." We all laughed and agreed we didn't either, but we washed them anyway. Later in the week one of the leaders and I did a potty run, we were super tired and super nervous, there was a rogue porcupine roaming camp....so we didn't wash our hands and ran back to camp. We couldn't stop laughing, but then again the giggle bug had hit and it was 2 am again and the lack of sleep was seriously getting to us.
Speaking of pests, the following things were sighted at camp, raccoon, porcupine, HUGE squirrels, we had one in our camp and I was scared.....Moose, deer, and flies plenty of flies.
A bit out of order and I didn't take pictures...what was I thinking. We had an M&M theme. Our value was good works with the color yellow. Here is our 2nd counselor (who was amazing, he came up for Bishopric night on Thursday and stayed over until Friday to help us get ready to come home. THANKS SAM!) This is his M character. Everyone made these characters WAY before camp. We used them for a few things....we printed and laminated them (thank goodness with the rain) and hung them around camp. For the girls tuck-ins we had some awesome people in the ward help us make journals with scrapbooking paper and composition notebooks. They had to put each girls M on it and their initials....the girls LOVED them. We also made these really cute tins with their M's and quotes...we then filled them with M&M's...loved them too. The last night, Carrie, Sam's wife, made yummy big m&m cookies with a cute saying and wrapped in cellophane and raffia, they were awesome...THANKS CARRIE!!!!
Sam and Carrie decked out in their "M" shirts, tiaras/top hat and gloves.
This is our group of girls (minus a few)
LEADERS: Mindy, Jamie, Natalie, Heather and me.
You can't resist Jazz hands.
Speaking of leaders. This is the best group of girls EVER. Jamie came up Thursday and it was so fun to get to know her. She is new to our ward and has a 3 month old baby. She wanted so bad to come to girls camp longer but had to be home with cute Megan. She's all ready informed us she is coming next year. The rest of us stayed up the whole time. I have to say a few of us were a bit vocal about not wanting to be at girls camp...the lack of sleep, dirt...oh the dirt was the worse....well, Mindy gave an AMAZING devotional on Wednesday about Nephi (who was our scripture character for camp....we also had "language" from the For the Strength of Youth pamphlet.) So she gave this lesson on murmuring and have a positive attitude and watching the things we say. It was so touching and I think it help change our attitudes a bit...we loved girls camp but it is A LOT of work and a huge sacrifice.
On wednesday evening we had skits. Our girls are super creative and they did a great job. Unfortunately it rained A LOT during skits so we would occasionally have to run for cover during a 2 minute down pour. Then resume for 10 minutes or so, then run for cover again.
Here are our girls before the skit, they love to do makeup and EVERYTHING.
Here they are getting ready to start.
I have to say these girls are super talented. The two girls on the right are Lauren and Paige. They were hunchbacks and super funny.
I didn't get a great picture but there were "goofy" teeth in our skit bag and the hunchbacks wore them. At the very end Lauren's fell out and what did she do?!? She picked them up brushed them off and put them back in....it was hilariously NASTY!
There were a few amazing highlights at camp. This is the stake young women's presidency and stake camp leaders doing a rap. It was awesome and super amazing.
The highlight of camp (or so I thought at the time) was when the Stake Presidents wife did this awesome faux breakdance...hilarious!
The next night I was even more blown away when the Stake Presidency did a rap. I could not stop laughing, especially since it's soooooo out of character for President Linnell. He's such a serious person and our Bishop has gotten a earful a few times for silly things he's done up at camp. So I think we were super shocked by this. LOVED it though it was catchy and fun and seriously NUMBER ONE!!!!!!!!!!
Here is one of our cute girls when we one the spirit stick.
Heather...gotta love the fan.
Crafts and service project...oh my. The stress oh the stress. I won't say much but this for me was super stressful. If I am camp director next year we will be doing something different.

All in all it was an amazing experience. I am super happy it's over and all the camp crap, I mean stuff is out of my house and garage. A few highlights. We burned the pizzas on wednesday, but the girls were so kind and said it was the best pizza ever...I had a hard time choking it down until we realized we could put the unburned cheese and toppings on the french bread...much better. We also burned the cobbler...I will not be doing dutch oven next year, not sure what the deal was but it didn't work and was SUPER stressful. The rest of the meals went fabulous.
Also Wednesday, one of our girls got dehydrated....oh man. So we had her drink water like the nurse told us too. Later that night she decided to go to bed and about 30 minutes later she stumbled into camp (our camp was set up as an upstairs and downstairs. You went up a steep incline to the girls tents (upstairs) and then the leaders tents and everything else was (downstairs) you then had to go down some stairs to get to the trailer and the rest of camp (basement) Anyway she came stumbling downstairs and we knew something wasn't right, so we went and fetched the nurse (aout 11:30 or so) it ended up that we needed to take her to Park City to a hospital for an iv. So her dad and Bishop met the leaders (all but me, I got to stay home with the girls at camp.) Anyway, she didn't leave the hospital until about 3:30, but our leaders made it back to camp around 2:30 LONG night. But the highlight (sorry Mindy) was when Mindy called her hubby (who is a doc.) and was telling him the medications she was on, to see if we should be concerned. Well she started with "Ah-ler-gah-toe" and when she said it I was seriously confused because I read her meds and that was not one I recalled. She said the next part and I just busted up laughing. Everyone looked at me and through laughter and tears I said, "Mindy, it's not Ah-ler-gah-toe, it's "allergic to"...oh boy we couldn't get past that and we were in tears of laugher the rest of camp....okay, maybe not Mindy. I think she got super tired of it the first 10 times. LOL I think after Wednesday and the lack of sleep, us leaders had the serious giggles the rest of camp.
Thanks for a great time.

Yea!! I've been waiting to hear how it went--so glad it was AWESOME!! We'll have to compare notes about all the things we should remember for next time (if there is a next time!) Enjoy recovering--it took me a week, and secretly, I have one box I haven't unpacked yet! :)
